Batch 34 Day 1

You have arrived … in an Institution that has a tradition of 33 years… a tradition of creating successful managers, responsible leaders, and enviable entrepreneurs.  This successful tradition was the result of commitment and hard work on the part of students and by the creation of a learning atmosphere at BIM. You will soon be a part of this great tradition.  While you can enjoy the fruits of this success story, you should also remember that all of you have a significant role to play in improving and developing yourselves, to take your capabilities to a higher platform.  Unflinching commitment to the purpose for which you are here and pursuing all relevant activities that will change you for the better, is essential to take this institute to greater heights.  By taking part actively in your transformation process, you help yourselves, you help the Institute, you help the organizations you are going to work for and above all, you are going to help this country.  BIM-MBA programme is designed around 4 ideas i.e. Knowledge, Skills, Values and Attitude to make every student, a better Manager and a responsible Leader.

We leave no stone unturned to create a great learning environment for you and we expect you to utilize this to acquire a portfolio of skills and add value to yourself during your two years on campus. Our program is designed and delivered to broaden your mind, deepen your thinking and enable you to carry out critical analysis with a profound knowledge of the theories and practice of management and business. Program outcomes will not only include the knowledge acquired but also the ability to communicate ideas and analysis and to motivate and manage other people through your intellect, wisdom and quality of mind. We have a strong team of 12 in-house faculty and another 50 members from the industry. This is a high performance team with a commitment with a clear shared purpose and direction to facilitate your preparation for a career in industry.

As you embark on a new and exciting career that makes entirely new demands on your approaches to education, I thought it fit to share with you a few tips today on how to learn and equip yourself in the next two years you spend at BIM. It is more important how and what you learn. If the quality of learning is high, the development gradient is steep and given time, you can find yourself, in a previously unattainable place. Keep in mind that you will now be expected to be more self relevant. You are responsible for what you do, for ensuring that you do the work that will be required of you.

Everyone loves to be recognized. Yet very few people take the time to do this. Being thoughtful in this manner can only make you stand out. These are merely the tip of the iceberg. You should be able to come up with several new ideas of your own.

Whatever life may have in store for you, each of you has a grand, lifelong project, and that is the development of yourself as a human being. Remember, that along with the knowledge that you may be building, it is also important to bridge our differences, build roads to connect hearts and minds and generate goodwill towards all. Knowledge without values is incomplete. All your education would be wasted if it does not help to build your character. That would make you flower into the best of humans-full of love, self confidence, self reliant, fearlessness, compassion and a spirit of service. Learn the values of hard work, discipline, integrity and dedication. BIM prides itself in upholding high values, and you must all imbibe and adhere to the good values that they teach you here and above all learn to value and respect fellow human beings.

Take time to look at things around you. Pause to see a leaf dance its way down from a tree. Look at a cloud – cluster in the azure sky and imagine what animal it resembles. You will then see the intricate beauty of ordinary things. Carry that perspective to what you do in livelihood and life.

Your journey towards a bright future starts today.  This journey will shake you out of your status quo, it will make you come out of your shell, out of your comfort zone.  This journey will also be a process of transformation in terms of realizing your strengths and potentials and building the courage to stand for your ideals and values.  You will enjoy the happiness of transformation process in terms of better life style and higher studies.  This journey is not a lonely journey.

All of us here Faculty, Staff and Fellow students will be there with you in the campus. Always remember, you are citizens of the world, the whole world belongs to you. There is some virtue to be learnt from every part of the world – team work from Japan, precision from Germany, marketing and negotiations skills from the United States, courtesy, decency and refinement from the British and Human values from the villages of India. You will find good qualities everywhere in the world. All of you possess these qualities. You only need nourishment. Psychologists today say that our attention span is decreasing because we watch too much television and other electronic media. This bombards the mind with too many impressions so that it is unable to focus for long. Children show an attention deficit syndrome. They have not been taught at home how to relax their minds. Perhaps the schools can do it. When the mind is relaxed, the attention span increases. If you observe yourself on a Sunday morning, you will note that you are very sharp. But, on a Wednesday or a Thursday, when you have first come home or hostel, from the school in the evening, or when you are very tired, your attention span is poor. Therefore, we have introduced from last year, the concept of contemplation amidst activity by an exposure to Neuro Linguistic programming for effective relaxation of mind for our students.

Many people find their passion later in life, and others never find it at all. And for some, their greatest passion is the search itself. But whether you’ve found your calling, or if you’re still searching, passion should be the fire that drives your preparation at BIM. The key is to listen to your heart and let it carry you in the direction of your dreams. It is possible to set your sights high and achieve your dreams and do it with integrity, character, and love. And each day that you’re moving toward your dreams without compromising who you are, you are winning.

BIM is a melting pot. You have come from different background & communities to pursue your ambitions as students. In an institution it can be tempting to stick with the familiar and it is especially true with respect to the people with whom you associate. But, it would be a lost opportunity to stick with your own all the time – embrace difference. Get to know people, who are different to you, it could be someone from a different part of the country, of a different ethnicity, a different religion, who has different views to you, or who has different interests and perspectives. You might or might not change as a person by embracing difference, but you will get a better understanding both of yourself and of those who are different to you. Knowing others and understanding others will help you develop as tolerant individuals.

A final word: When one day, you have made your mark on the world, remember that in the ultimate analysis, we are all mere temporary custodians of the wealth we generate, whether it be financial, intellectual or emotional. The best use of all your wealth is to share it with those less fortunate.
