class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A twentieth century Tamil poet, Bharathidasan was born in Puducherry (earlier Pondicherry) as Subburathinam. He was deeply influenced by the Tamil poet and freedom fighter, Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi, who mentored him and hence named himself Bharathidasan. A participant in the Indian independence movement, he opposed the British and the French. He was imprisoned for voicing his views against the French Government that was ruling Pondicherry at that time. A poet in his own right, writing mostly on socio-political issues like caste, women\u2019s liberation and rationalism, Bharathidasan was one of the key figures in the Dravidian rationalist movement. He was called \u2018Puratchi Kavingyar\u2019 by the great rationalist leader and social reformer, Periyar E V Ramaswami.<\/p><p>He remained a prolific writer and poet till he died in 1964. He was awarded the Sahitya Academy Award posthumously. One among his famous lines is <b>\u2018\u0b85\u0bb1\u0bbf\u0bb5\u0bc8 \u0bb5\u0bbf\u0bb0\u0bbf\u0bb5\u0bc1 \u0b9a\u0bc6\u0baf\u0bcd, \u0b85\u0b95\u0ba3\u0bcd\u0b9f\u0bae\u0bbe\u0b95\u0bcd\u0b95\u0bc1\u2019<\/b>, \u2018Arivai virivu sei, agandamakku\u2019 meaning \u201cExpand Knowledge \u2013 make it universal\u201d. Named after this great poet, it has been BIM\u2019s endeavour to expand and universalize knowledge.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">Named after the revolutionary poet Bharathidasan, the Bharathidasan University was set up in 1982 as an offshoot of the University of Madras. The motto of the University&nbsp;<b>&#8220;We will create a brave new world&#8221;<\/b>&nbsp;has been framed from Bharathidasan&#8217;s poetic words <b>&#8220;\u0baa\u0bc1\u0ba4\u0bbf\u0baf\u0ba4\u0bcb\u0bb0\u0bcd \u0b89\u0bb2\u0b95\u0bae\u0bcd \u0b9a\u0bc6\u0baf\u0bcd\u0bb5\u0bcb\u0bae\u0bcd&#8221;<\/b>.
